In this work, a novel design of a laboratory PDF diffractometer is laid out based on the STOE STADI P with an Ag anode and a MYTHEN2 4K detector system, consisting of four Dectris MYTHEN2 R 1K modules. Based on data collection times of 6 h over an I(Q) range of 0.3–20.5 Å-1, it is shown that besides high instrumental resolution and low background, unprecedented PDF data quality is achieved.
This is - to our knowledge - the very first example of high-quality laboratory PDF data to be fit beyond r = 30 Å and thus provide the basis for in-depth structural refinements based on laboratory PDF data.
